The duo Witch Post enchant with latest EP release

Witch Post's goal to "reclaim band music" is made nowhere more evident than in their latest EP release 'Beast'. Released last week on April 18th, the Scottish American duo [Dylan Fraser and Alaska Reid] follow up their slew of singles with an EP that not only houses the previously released tracks but gives us two new additions in the form of 'Spell' and 'Ragged'. The track list weaves a tale of rich, raw backings highlighted with smooth vocals that blend to create a striking mix of loud guitar and dreamy lyrics. With a sound plucked straight from the alternative rock of the '90s, 'Beast' never feels like a nostalgic-laced imitation, but rather a modern homage that oozes with melancholic finesse. The EP is carried at an excellent pace from one song to the next, each having an identity of its own.

'Chill Out' and 'Dreaming', previously released as singles, deliver an energetic opening that drips with indie authenticity. 'Spell' offers a softer, sombre performance and allows a reprieve before we dive back into a bombastic second half of the record. We close out with 'The Wolf,' another masterclass in overlapping vocals and hazy dreamlike soundscapes.

Overall, 'Beast' is an excellent debut offering steeped in melodic nods to subgenres of the past. It clearly marks Witch Post as a band that will forever be played on repeat.
