Asbury Park, NJ space enthusiast Mike Chick returns with a lyric video for “Astronauts”, the latest and (possible) final single from his 2024 album, More Thrills, Less Hills, out now via Mint 400 Records. “Astronauts” is a song about the people trying to spend billions to make other planets like Mars habitable, while taking care of the Earth is still our best option.
“Astronauts” features Bill Bourke on drums and Emily Bornemann on vocals. That’s it. Mike played everything else. And to be honest, I really don’t know what bands to compare this song to. “My favorite part is when the Mellotron kicks in at the end of the song. I think it really lifts the end part into flight.” says Chick.
The video was filmed during a trip Chick took to Italy in August 2023 and features shots from a hotel, train station, beach and a tuk-tuk (known as an Ape in Italy). This is the fifth video from MTLH to make use of Chick’s MiniDV camera. Chick says, “Whenever I go away now I bring the MiniDV camera and film the whole time. I can’t wait to share some of the footage I have stored up for my next LP.”
The video was edited by Mike Chick’s Yawn Mower bandmate Biff Swenson, who also worked on all of Chick’s other videos. Watch them out on Youtube at your convenience. More Thrills, Less Hills, is a year old this month (HAPPY BIRTHDAY) and Chick’s third LP and follows 2022’s I Don’t Write Love Songs. Both are on all streaming services.
