Christopher Sluka, the leader who orchestrates all-things in the alternative rock band Sluka, is back with a vengeance on the unusually dark cover of the vintage track "Tonight You Belong to Me."
The song was originally written in 1926 by lyricist Billy Rose and composer Lee David.
Sluka’s cover starts off as a sweet and tuneful number, rising with delightful harmonies, plucked ukulele, and soft trumpet bleats.
The storm eventually arrives, and "Tonight You Belong to Me" takes an ominous turn, with deeper and more atonal harmonies materializing that crowd out the pleasing introduction.
Christopher Sluka shouts out his vocals, twisting the words like a knife amid buzzing noise and quirky electronic sonics.
The accompanying music video is just as troubling, if not more so. The clip shows Christopher Sluka and a woman who provides backing harmonies afloat in a hot air balloon.
They seem like a pair of lovebirds taking flight in the blue sky dotted with fluffy white clouds. But as soon as the song and sky get darker, so do the pair who soon argue and tussle in the small basket of the hot air balloon…
While multi-talented and multi-platform artist Christopher Sluka and his band are known for putting on a grand show and for epic anthems, there is usually a beaming ray of sunshine to be found, but not this time around.
