¡Ponce!'s collection of anime themed indie rock tracks continues with the weighty "Dragon of Chaos".
The new single sees the Connecticut crew's jarring and angular math rock brought to life, as fantastical storytelling dances in and out of complex time signatures and sparkling melodies.
Discussing the new track, lead vocalist Joseph Omeluk shares: ““Dragon of Chaos is a metaphorical song about the process of writing music integrated into a fantasy based setting. The lyrical ideas are inspired by anime while having an underlying theme of what it means to write music. The instrumentation is actually something I’ve wanted to experiment with and hopefully can be imbued into future songs.”
You don't have to look far beyond the band moniker (taken from 00s cult cartoon Clone High) and the title of debut EP - ¡Ponce! are...(The Wizards of Time & Infinity) - to comprehend the Connecticut outfit's fantastic thematic influences and lyrical references. Tales of mystery, magic and mayhem are grounded in the band's defined, technically proficient brand of modern rock.
Come along to a ¡Ponce! show and be greeted by costumes and convivial fan interaction, a removal - perhaps - from the usual straight-faced, banter-lite expectation that fans might expect from a band of this genre.
Whilst the rookie collection gave fans a first look at the trio's intricate sonic stylings, the new material doubles down on the ¡Ponce! soundscape, with "Attack on Titan" and "Heart of The Cards" brought the band's joyfully jagged latest cycle to life. New single "Dragon of Chaos" is a fiery follow up, laced with angular riffs and splashes of pop sensibility as ¡Ponce! continue to woo fans of math rock and Midwest emo, with their heady sonic output.
