The Clydes kick off a series of new releases with Sleeping On The Side Of Your Head, a melodic and forward-driving single that sets the stage for their upcoming album.

New Jersey alternative rock band The Clydes are rolling out new music in a big way this year. The band, a longtime part of the Mint 400 Records roster, is releasing three singles over the next few months, leading up to a new full-length album. First up is Sleeping On The Side Of Your Head, a song that blends elements of new wave and indie rock, showing off the band’s knack for melody and atmosphere.

The Clydes are led by brothers Brent (vocals) and Brian (guitar) Johnson, who have been playing music together for years. Brian describes the writing process for the new single as quick and instinctual. “I like riffs that lead to possibilities and surprises—and there are melodic surprises at every turn on this one,” he says. The song came together over phone exchanges, with Brian sending Brent an instrumental and Brent returning with a vocal melody and key changes in under half an hour. “Sometimes that’s the best way to write,” Brian adds. “It’s natural, and it’s who you are.”

Brent’s lyrics on Sleeping On The Side Of Your Head reflect movement and change, mirroring the way the music continuously pushes forward. “I wanted it to sound like the music and the words keep stretching forward, like you can’t see an end to the horizon,” he explains.

The band recorded the song with producer Adam Vaccarelli at Retromedia Sound Studios in Red Bank, New Jersey. Longtime bassist Andrew Orlando added his signature bass lines, providing a steady foundation. Following this single, The Clydes have two more releases planned, each bringing in elements of post-punk and Britpop. Their new album, expected in the coming months, will mark another step forward for the band, who have been crafting their sound since 2009.

The Clydes’ music has always balanced strong songwriting with a deep love for alternative rock history. Sleeping On The Side Of Your Head keeps that tradition alive while pushing into new sonic territory. Fans of melodic, well-crafted indie rock will find a lot to enjoy as the band unveils more of what’s next. The band has always tended to pull from classic poppier rock of the 70's but mixed with brit rock of the 80's and 90's to create their own unique niche sound. This of course is infused with that Jersey element that only bands from the east coast seem to be able to harness. The new track is a stand out in the bands already impressive catalog.
