Underlined Passages, a Baltimore-based indie rock band, blends nostalgic and modern sounds in their upcoming album Landfill Indie, exploring themes of purpose and relationships in a digital age.

Underlined Passages is a band from Baltimore that has been making waves in the indie rock scene. Known for their emotional and guitar-driven sound, they’ve built a loyal fanbase through hard work and touring. Their music brings a nostalgic feel while still sounding fresh and modern. The band’s latest albums, Neon Inoculation and the upcoming Landfill Indie, showcase their unique style and creativity. Landfill Indie will be available on November 15, 2024, through Mint400 Records.

We caught up with Michael Nestor, the band's frontman, to talk about their new music and the inspiration behind it. “This record is about finding purpose and looking at our relationships in this digital age,” he explains. Michael and his bandmates—Roger Stewart on drums and Gary Hewitt on bass—recorded much of the album in a big studio, but some was done at Michael’s home studio. “We really wanted to capture a unique sound,” he adds, noting that it took a team of talented friends to bring the album to life.

When asked about the title Landfill Indie, Michael shares his thoughts. “I wanted to push back against the idea that some music is just ‘disposable.’ There are real people behind these songs, and I want listeners to feel that,” he says. He describes the challenge of getting noticed in today’s crowded music scene, where thousands of songs are released daily.

Michael finds inspiration in both classic and new artists. “There was a time when music was about exploration, and I miss that,” he reflects. “But there are still amazing new bands out there.” Some of his current favorites include NAYAN and Pet Fox.

As for the future, Michael is excited to keep creating and connecting with fans. “I believe in sharing music that means something. It’s all about the journey,” he concludes. Keep an eye on Underlined Passages; they’re definitely a band worth listening to!
