Merry Cherry Bomb, the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Allie Gardner, blends dreamy bedroom pop, baroque pop, and Motown influences in her upcoming Spring EP, the first in a seasonal series, with the second single “Afterglow” offering a glimpse into her bold, layered sound and personal storytelling

Merry Cherry Bomb, the one-person project driven by multi-instrumentalist and singer Allie Gardner, is ready to make waves with her new series of EPs. Known for her unique blend of bedroom pop, baroque pop, and a touch of Motown, Merry Cherry Bomb’s music captures listeners with its dreamy, 70s-inspired instrumentals and powerful vocals. Gardner’s newest venture will kick off with the Spring EP, set for release on January 17th. This project marks the first of four EPs, each themed for a different season, showcasing Gardner’s diverse songwriting and artistic vision.

Merry Cherry Bomb began after Gardner’s previous band, Buddy Love Goes Coconuts, disbanded. With songs ready but no bandmates in sight, Gardner decided to record everything herself, a move that allowed her full creative control. The name Merry Cherry Bomb comes from Gardner’s lively personality and love for cherry-flavored things, earning her the nickname “Cherry Bomb” from friends. Adding a fun twist, “Merry Cherry Bomb” was born, embodying her playful yet bold musical style.

Gardner’s songwriting process usually starts on the guitar or piano, building on a drum track often provided by her brother, Ryan. This method lets her craft songs layer by layer, creating music that balances a personal touch with universal themes. Her influences include classic acts like The Beatles and Motown legends, as well as punk bands like Wavves and Bikini Kill. A major inspiration for Gardner has been Kevin Parker of Tame Impala; his one-person recording approach motivated her to follow a similar path.

While Merry Cherry Bomb has mostly been a solo endeavor with small acoustic performances, Gardner plans to form a touring band with support from Mint 400 Records. This move signals an exciting new chapter that fans are eager to see unfold. With the release of Spring and more seasonal EPs on the way, Merry Cherry Bomb is poised to expand her reach and continue captivating audiences with her distinct blend of sounds. Today we present listeners with a sneak peek at the 2nd single on the 'Spring' EP the track "Afterglow".
