Loud About Loathing

After "Oh, There's Legwork", the horrendous opener of None More Black's latest release, the six-song EP 'Loud About Loathing', comes "Peace on Mars, Cause You Ain't Gonnna Get It Here", which hints at so much more ヨ what with its frantic, conflicted, hardcore sound. Damn good song, indeed, and, sadly, the lone ray of hope for this EP. The five other compositions present here truly pale in comparison to this shining second track, as evidenced by the following song, "Traffic Is a Global Word", which is more of the annoying, melodic, upbeat punk found on the opener, this time replete with cheesy handclaps. The only other song coming close to the greatness of "Peace" is the more inventive "Genuine Malaise and Misery". But, again, all expectations for NMB's follow-up to 2003's 'File Under Black' go down the drain with the final two cloying punk-by-numbers tracks. Disappointing, really. Guess we'll have to wait and see what they have in store for their upcoming full-length...
