BEASTS Unleashes The Shearing, a Brutal and Uncompromising Debut BEASTS
Reviewed by Sam Lowry

BEASTS’ debut album The Shearing delivers a raw, unfiltered mix of punk, noise, rap, and doom, tackling themes of immigration, class struggle, and generational trauma with intensity and purpose.

BEASTS is the new solo project from Antoine Romeo, formerly of run SOFA, and it doesn’t hold back. Mixing punk, noise, rap, and doom, Romeo delivers something raw and deeply personal. His debut album, The Shearing, is set for release on April 18, 2025, via La Base ASBL and Rockerill Records. It dives headfirst into heavy topics—immigration, class struggle, and generational trauma—without softening the edges.

Romeo, who grew up in a large family of Italian immigrants in Charleroi, brings a lived-in intensity to the music. To shape the sound of BEASTS, he teamed up with drummer Tijl Van de Casteele (Whorses) and bassist François Hantson (Feel, Mingawash). The result is a sound that feels both confrontational and cathartic, reflecting the harsh realities of post-industrial Belgium and beyond.

BEASTS isn’t just about the music—it’s a statement. The project refuses to play into corporate algorithms or industry hype. Instead, it stands as a space for self-expression, resilience, and resistance. The band’s manifesto makes it clear: BEASTS is anti-fascist, anti-elitist, and driven by passion over profit.

For fans of Show Me the Body, Avalanche Kaito, and Chat Pile, The Shearing promises an intense listening experience. The album channels the weight of history and social unrest into something immediate and unfiltered. Each track serves as a release—both for the artist and the audience.

BEASTS' approach to music is refreshingly direct. This is not polished or manufactured; it’s meant to be felt in your chest and rattling in your head long after the last note fades. In a time when much of the industry prioritizes accessibility, The Shearing demands confrontation. It’s a necessary reminder that music can still be dangerous, unrelenting, and real.
