Tooth & Nail Records
Tooth & Nail Records is more than a music company to the people who support our bands worldwide and the hard-working staff who consider our offices a second home, their coworkers a second family. What began in a bedroom over a decade ago has grown organically to become the enthusiastic support system behind many of the most important rock bands operating, including Underoath, Emery, Hawk Nelson, Thousand Foot Krutch and The Almost. With headquarters in Seattle and offices in Nashville, Tennessee and elsewhere, Tooth & Nail Records is also the parent company to Solid State Records (Demon Hunter, Haste The Day) and BEC Recordings (Jeremy Camp, Kutless).
The humble beginnings of Tooth & Nail can be traced back to the early '90s punk and hardcore music scene. Label founder Brandon Ebel became immersed in the network of musicians, clubs, fanzines and promoters who were making waves with bands whose positive messages (whether translated through melodic punk or heavy rock) and creative, inspired music compelled Ebel to get more closely involved himself.
Tooth & Nail Records first release was from Wish For Eden, followed soon by a prolific stream of important cornerstone records from diverse bands like the Juliana Theory, MxPx and Starflyer 59. Suddenly the label became a force in Christian music circles and niche underground subculture alike, with bands whose broad appeal could not be pigeonholed to a particular crowd but instead created music powerful enough to make crossover inevitable.
Ebel continues to lead the company, overseeing the best marketing team in the music business who are constantly engaged in discovering and implementing innovative ways to connect Tooth & Nail's music with the increasingly lifestyle driven culture, ever vigilant to keep the music pure and the motivation healthy.
Seminal releases from more extreme acts like Living Sacrifice and Strongarm eventually lead to the creation of Solid State Records, the Tooth & Nail imprint home to bands like Demon Hunter, Haste The Day and Norma Jean. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the BEC Recordings roster includes many of the best and brightest in melodic rock.
Tooth & Nail bands impact the lives of their fans in profound ways, providing a soundtrack to their triumphs and guiding them through struggle in ways that transcend the typical artist / listener relationship. Driven to this unique perspective, the music press has caught on and embraced many T&N bands the kids already knew. T&N groups grace the covers of magazines like Alternative Press and receive airplay on MTV, Fuse and modern rock stations across the country, while headlining tours like Rockstar Taste Of Chaos and Vans Warped Tour and festivals like Cornerstone.
Nearly a half-dozen Tooth & Nail albums have been certified gold for sales of 500,000 or more copies in the United States and several bands - Thousand Foot Krutch, Hawk Nelson and Mae, to name a few—have sold in the 200,000+ range. Underoath's Define The Great line debuted at #2 on Billboard's Top 200 Album chart. For the last three years, Tooth & Nail releases have been nominated at the Grammys in the design / packaging and short form video categories. mewithoutYou, another T&N staple band, earned a coveted MTV Woodie Award.
With new signings like Family Force 5, Copeland, Capital Lights and The Becoming injecting fresh life into the company, Tooth & Nail continues to be a vital, dominant presence in the contemporary music scene.
We invite anyone and everyone to check out our bands, become acquainted with the variety of strong artistic points of view represented, and immerse yourself in our family. We know you'll like what you find!
