If it's true that nostalgia runs in twenty year cycles (hence the resurgent popularity of tie-dye in the late '80s or the recent hipster embrace of Member's Only jackets), then we are about due for a rehash of the grunge age. So if you've missed your flannel shirts and you're nostalgic for those rainy Seattle winters, Livewire Recordings has got the perfect record for you! On February 7 they are releasing the 20 track behemoth, Sleepless In Seattle: The Birth Of Grunge, featuring tracks by the era's most influential acts, from the Melvins to Mudhoney. In chronicling the rise of the Seattle underground of the '80s and '90s, few stones are left unturned. From the scene's elder statesmen like U-Men to grunge godfathers Green River (featuring Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard and Mudhoney's Mark Arm) to the riot grrrl punk of 7 Year Bitch, the gang is all here. In fact, Minnesota's Babes In Toyland even make a geographically puzzling (yet welcome) appearance. It's hard to find fault with this pretty exhaustive collection, though that one rock geek friend of yours will inevitably cry, "What, no Blood Circus?"
