Italian outfit Sneers. channel swampy and dark Gothic vibes with their ominous music and bleak lyrics. Their new album, Tales for Violent Days, will be released on March 4th on vinyl and digitally via Manchester, UK label God Unknown Records.
Ahead of the LP drop Sneers. have unveiled “Ode to the Past,” an atmospheric and menacing track with an equally discomfiting music video.
The video was created and directed by filmmaker Leon, and follows the song’s lyrics to the letter. The camera focuses on a lone woman in a bare room (excepting the wallpaper and a halo of dead butterflies) who slowly consumes, yes, a letter.
The number’s words flash by in cursive against the footage, as a pair of hands reach up from below in an unearthly caress of the woman’s body as she intensely mourns the past…
Sneers. formed in Berlin when Italian singer and guitarist M.Greta Blaankart connected drummer Leonardo O. Stefenelli. They relocated to Rome and dove into their dark sound and vision in earnest.
In 2018 they released studio album, Heaven Will Rescue Us, We're the Scum, We're in the Sun, collaborating with Kristof Hahn from Swans who contributed lap-steel guitar.
Sneers. have toured the UK and Europe, supported The Telescopes, and won praise and premieres from BBC Radio 6, Revista Marvin, and Post-Punk.
Sneers. describe Tales For Violent Days thusly: “This record is composed of nine internal storms… These tales are about the cruelty of our days &: dancing angels, young lovers (you are the future), women, mothers, old lovers (you are history), wolves, derelicts, defeats, desires, demons. Or, shorter and easier: tales about humankind.”
