Jason DeVore, frontman of veteran punk rock band Authority Zero, goes solo on a potent new LP.

Arizonian punk rock band Authority Zero, fronted by Jason DeVore, have been cranking out tasty ska/skate punk music since 1994. Authority Zero’s latest album, Persona Non Grata, came out this past December via Concrete Jungle Records.

Even though Authority Zero is still active, DeVore has recorded a new solo album, Conviction Vol III: The Road To Clarity, that will see release on March 1st via his label Operation Records.

Conviction Vol III: The Road To Clarity is DeVore’s first solo LP in 9 years and it follows up Conviction Volume I: The Smoke House Sessions and Conviction Volume II: The Crooked Path.

DeVoe recorded Conviction Vol III: The Road To Clarity with his friends and Authority Zero bassist Mike Spero. Per the press release, the album, “…explores the ups and downs of life on the road by examining life stories and tribulations. The album is about seeking purpose, happiness and above all…Clarity.”

Rebel Noise is mighty psyched to host the hard-luck blues-punk song and video premiere of “Are We Too Loud”, a rhythmically staccato track that stamps forward with gritty determination.

DeVore’s passionately proclaimed exclamations run in tandem to the emphatic, beaten-drum pace. Eventually a strictly struck acoustic guitar line comes in, picking up the same sharp tempo (with a few melodic flourishes), along with sporadic, spare zig-zagging electronic notes.

The video for “Are We Too Loud” was filmed in Phoenix in the middle of a motorcycle graveyard, perfect visual symbolism for DeVoe’s lyrics and the rhythmic ‘digging’ sound on the song.

The video was directed and edited by Jason Passaro and features DeVoe emoting in front of the lens, on his knees and beating his chest with a shovel in time to the music and also digging into the dirt.

The images of DeVoe shoveling away dollar bills amid abandoned, rusty spare parts matches the song’s lyrics about income disparity with a defiant DeVore declaring, “The poor pour out their hearts / while the rich make the score”. He also hits the target on how we waste what we create by eventually throwing it away, and how our consumer culture has ingrained us to believe that we always, “must have more.”
